Awards and Regalia

As a member of the Cal High Instrumental Music program, students can earn various awards and regalia, including "Varsity” Block Letters, Honor Cords, and Graduation Stoles.

How can I earn these items?

MUSIC: Varsity Instrumental Music Block Letters can be earned after 3 years (or the equivalent of 6 semesters) of instrumental music classes taken at Cal High. Cal High currently offers the following instrumental music classes: Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, Strings Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra. A student may earn a Block Letter by participating in any combination of these music classes for a total of 6 semesters. A student must receive a passing grade for it to count toward block letter eligibility.

MARCHING BAND & COLORGUARD: Varsity Marching Band and Colorguard Block Letters can be earned after 3 seasons (i.e., Fall semesters) of participation in the Marching Band and Colorguard. A student must receive a passing grade in each Fall semester of Marching Band/Colorguard for it to count toward block letter eligibility. Students who participate in a Cal High winter season of marching (e.g., Winterguard, Winter Percussion, etc.) may opt to use that as an additional semester toward block letter eligibility.
